The current form of the kindergarten is the result of many reconstructions. The building originally served a completely different purpose. A whole series of additions and construction interventions gradually created a not very representative conglomerate, technically and especially operationally completely unsatisfactory today. We propose its reconstruction. Despite its scope, it makes sense for us not to demolish the object. A large part will be preserved, in addition to the entire basement and most of the brick structures of the main floor. We remove modern-day additions, for example the existing entrance, as well as the entire roof plane, a kind of complex mess of hip and counter roofs. We are strengthening the south and north wings, expanding the floor plan. In the central part, we untangle the mess of earlier disparate interventions, clean up the layout and add a new entrance in the eastern part. This creates a third, central part of the object, comparable in volume to the outer ones. An expanded floor plan and a new roof structure in the form of three gabled roofs connected to each other give the building a completely new shape and expression. The large windows, conceived in contemporary minimalist detail, are regularly spaced for even lighting. In combination with the traditional materials used, for example colored stucco and cut ceramic tiles, they give the building a unique character. All three classes meet the required capacity of 24 children (2 × 96 m² and 1 × 110 m²). Two of them, extended by extensions, remain in the same place, the third is being built in the place of the current kitchen. It is here that the required standard levels of sunlight for children's indoor living spaces can be achieved. On the contrary, in the place of the existing third class, the most separated part of the building from the green garden, a kitchen with facilities is created, accessible through a separate supply entrance on the north side of the house. Each class has its own dressing room and washrooms with toilets. Its layout enables all children's daily activities: playing, teaching, eating and resting. We leave the basement without significant changes. The location of all technology, including the heattrusing source, is calculated here. Part of the floor will also be used for storage of off-season equipment. The outside access to the basement will remain in the same place, only the staircase will be turned. On the 1st floor level, new masonry will be connected to the existing masonry, we assume from ceramic blocks. The reinforced concrete wreath will connect the old with the new and will house the roof structure and wooden trusses. The entire building will be insulated in such a way that it meets even the strictest current requirements. We are considering the existing gas boiler as a heat source. In the garden, we count on the existing grown greenery to the maximum extent. The terrain morphology remains unchanged. Compared to the current state, we are only increasing the paved area in front of the main entrance. Its triangular shape is connected by a barrier-free access walkway, and in a northerly direction, it passes into the green garden via wide residential stairs. Dividing the garden into individual zones allows the classes to stay outside separately. Each part offers something different: a track for scooters and kickback scooters, plenty of play elements, a fire pit, a sandbox and space for cultivation work, including flower beds and compost. The gazebo with workbenches for crafting, located at the gable facade of the neighboring building, also accommodates an outdoor toilet with a washroom and a toy storage. There are also small water features in the outdoor area: drinking fountain, pump, mister. We consider the northern part of the garden to be the least valuable for children. That is why we allocate it to supply the school kitchen.

Anežka´s father: “I am taking my older daughter to kindergarten along the sidewalk surrounded by the greenery of the garden. I take the younger one in a stroller, which I park on the extended paved area right in front of the entrance. There is plenty of room. And the children drew it all nicely with chalk yesterday. See the artwork? The entrance hall literally draws me in through the glass-enclosed courtyard. I walk into it and I still feel a little like outside. Maybe it's the upper lighting of the elevated space, maybe the same plaster on the walls as on the facade of the house? I don't know. At noon, when I pick up my daughter, I will go a little earlier. I sit here on the central cushioned bench and calmly look at all the beautiful drawings on the big boards. I'm in a rush now, so hurry to the dressing room. I can see the interior of the classroom through the open door. It is clear that the best part only begins there. I envy the children that bright elevated space. Warm colors, natural materials, plenty of space. The teachers are said to praise that the space is simple and clear. I leave and through the circular window in the vestibule, placed so low that even our Anežka can see it, the children are still waving goodbye to their parents. A little thing that pleases. Have a nice day!“

Anežka: “What I love most about our classroom is this recessed space. It can be climbed by two steps. We like to talk and read books on the mattresses and pillows. And when a magician came to us once, we were sitting on the steps and it felt like we were in a theater. And we have toys hidden in those steps! And there are two squirrels running outside. And we can see them from the big windows, even if we are lying on the ground.“

The cook: “Well, the kitchen isn't so bad anymore. Her original place was really inappropriate. So I think it's very good for the kitchen to be there. Now there is a beautiful classroom! Southern sun and views to two cardinal points! It's a shame I'm not a little girl anymore, because that's exactly the class I'd like to be in. Well, seriously… What has been proven very well is that children eat in their classes. We take the food cooked in the kitchen to two small preparation rooms right next to the classrooms and serve it from there. This one works for two classes at once. And one more important thing. Completely separate kitchen supply gives me peace of mind. No car can meet the children in the garden and it can arrive at practically any time.“

The school´s director: “I am most happy for the fact that it was possible to get all the classes on one floor. Three times ninety-six square meters, i.e. space for twenty-four children, was a task that was successfully completed. And one class is even bigger. Each class has its own dressing room and washroom with toilet. That wasn't the case before. You know, and such a detail: the toilets are accessible directly from the dressing room and directly from the classroom. Just the way it should be. I wouldn't say that if I didn't know how often it isn't. Of course, I am also happy about the new director's office and especially the school staffroom with a large round table. This is exactly the place we were missing before. Here we can all consult together on how to make it even more pleasant for the children.“
