The current situation on the Arnošta z Pardubic Square and the Husovo Square is very disappointing from the perspective of the use of public spaces. The movement of pedestrians as well as any leisure use is greatly limited by the ever-increasing demands for total car serviceability of all parts of the parterre and the increasing pressure on parking capacity. The result is a cluttered traffic area with all its undesirable consequences.
The design restores to both main surfaces the function they carry in their name. That is, the square. The center of gravity is therefore the emphasis on architectural-urban ties and events, and the current traffic dominance recedes into the background. Despite this, the chosen transport concept still ensures complete service to all residential buildings, establishments, offices, school facilities and touristic popular objects. Various historical traces, buildings and artistic objects can once again stand out in the space, and the square then perfectly fulfills the role entrusted to it.
The new consolidation and calming of the two squares in Český Brod allows cars to pass only around the perimeter. The central road separating the squares becomes a city corso. The clearly defined areas of the square fulfill an important representative function. They let the monument of Prokop Holy and the Statue of the Holy Family stand out. The mature linden trees in front of the old town hall are supplemented, their value strengthened. When arriving at the square, they become a visually exposed element and a sought-after place to stay. From the forecourt of the church of St. Gothard all deposits and barriers are removed. A dignified space corresponding to the character and importance of the place is created. Greenery in the form of trees is mainly represented around the perimeter of the square, adding to the rhythm and replacing surviving trees. A few solitary trees are also part of the greenery concept. The area around the bell tower is the only generously grassed area on the square (outside the church). It acquires a relaxing character in a pleasant climate under the crowns of trees and in the shadow of the church.
